Scenography and dramaturgy are connected.
Exhibitions must tell a story. What visitors take away from an exhibition is the story. That story can be told using a range of techniques and forms, texts and images (moving and still), colors and atmospheres, interactive and participatory interventions.
A scenographic atmosphere, an aesthetic design, a choice of materials also implies a choice of visual style and writing style, a way of storytelling in which form and idea merge.
When devising the scenography and dramaturgy of exhibitions, Koen Bovée has been working for some time with dramaturgs and concept developers such as Gerry De Mol and the Handelsreizigers in ideeën. He has extensive and diverse experience with the techniques and also works with a network of specialists.
The same applies to his collaboration with graphic designers such as Stijn Dams and PJOTR, who subscribe to the overall concept and work with the team to find a visual language that serves the story. Materials, colors, writing style, story structure, and layout are all interlinked.
A changing team stimulates a creative approach, always with a fresh perspective tailored to the project. Scenography seeks the right balance between story, object, experience, poetry, and architecture.
